Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature hosted by Tyngas Reviews. This meme allows us to share the books we've recently added to our shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks! *Clicking the link of a book's title will take you to Goodreads.
So back to my normal life. I've graduated graduate school and am still waiting for my teacher certification from the state so that I can at least work as a substitute this semester. I'm still at my office part-time but they've pretty much told me that they are looking for my replacement since I don't want to go back to full time. I'm hoping that I can get into to some school districts as a sub before that happens. Because I, like, like money and food and stuff.
On the blog front this was a pretty awesome week. I got up two book reviews: Being Sloane Jacobs and Cringe. Both books are cute and quick reads and I would recommend both. I also posted a movie review. Did you know Channing Tatum was in a high school reunion movie? It's called Ten Years and it's a simple, fun movie that you should definitely check out.
On the new book front, I have some pretty cool books to show you. So without further adieu...Hope you are all having awesome weekends!
For Review
A Mad, Wicked Folly by Sharon Biggs Waller
I'm in love with that dress. I love the yellow. This book is set in the early 1900s and follows a girl who wants to be an artist, but isn't allowed to study art because she's just a girl. I've heard this has a pretty feminist slant with I love.
Avalon by Mindee Arnett
I have to admit that I'm not quite sure why I downloaded this teens driving a space ship story. It really isn't my normal book at all. I'm going to give it a shot though.
What Nora Knew by Linda Yellin
This chick-lit novel follows a journalist looking for love with the help of Nora Ephron movies. If anybody can help it's Nora Ephron.
Fake ID by Lamar Giles
A teen murder mystery. I don't really know that much about it.
What I Bought
Mockingbirds by Daisy Whitney
A girl turns to the secret society that polices her boarding school after she is date raped.
The Brightest Star in the Sky by Marian Keyes
I've already read this charming book that follows the different people living in a townhouse, but I couldn't request snagging this copy when I found it for $2. I love Marian Keyes.
What I snagged from the library
The Killing Woods by Lucy Christopher
I'm excited to read this YA mystery that follows a girl trying to clear her father's name.
The F-It List by Julie Halpern
I passed on requesting this when it was up on NG. I just don't know how many books about cancer and/or bucket lists I can read, but the first chapter was pretty good so I think I'm going to give this slim novel a try.
So
that's it for me this week. I'm pretty excited about what I added to my
shelves. What did you add to your shelves? Link me up!

Amazing books! The F-List is a great book. I really hope you enjoy it :-)
ReplyDeleteLOL - "I'm not quite sure why I downloaded this." Story of my life! I have Avalon, too. I love sci-fi, so I hope it's not disappointing. I'm also excited for A Mad, Wicked Folly. I've had good luck with stories from that period recently. Enjoy!

Nice haul :) Fake ID and What Nora Knew both seem good, love the covers and the titles :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by earlier. Have a great weekend, and happy reading.
Congrats on getting your education finished! I hope you'll be able to sub at a nice school close to home!

Great haul! You've got so many great looking books. I've heard good things about The F- It List, will probably be getting that one for myself. I requested Avalon as well, but ended up DNFing when I just couldn't get in to it. I hope you enjoy all your books :) My STS.

ReplyDeleteMy STS
I am hearing really good things about the Killing Woods so I hope you enjoy it! I love the cover of the Marian Keyes book! Definitely a steal at $2!
ReplyDeleteI super excited to read The Killing Woods but I probably won't get to it for some time yet so I am looking forward to your review. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome haul! I'm very intrigued by A Mad, Wicked Folly. At first it didn't seem like my kind of thing, but a lot of people have said it was great, so that made me change my mind. I hope you enjoy all your new reads this week!
ReplyDeleteAvalon sounds great, especially since The Nighttime Affair was an awesome read. I've heard some amazing things about The F-It List, too. I hope you enjoy all of your books :)
ReplyDeleteA Mad Wicked Folly! I so want to read that one :-) I hope you enjoy it and I look forward to your review. Very curious about how you'll like Avalon too :-) great haul and have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteI've reserved The Killing Woods at the library. Kind of excited...it looks deliciously creepy. ;) I'd really like to read The F-It List too. Bucket Lists are always pretty fascinating! Great haul. Happy reading. :) My StS!
ReplyDeleteHaven't read any of these, but The F-It List is one of the books that I have seen so many good opinions on so I hope you enjoy :)
ReplyDeleteI'll cross my fingers for you on the job front. In the meantime, enjoy my book haul.
ReplyDeleteSarah
P.S. There's a Channing Tatum film I haven't seen?!
Nice assortment of books. Good luck on getting subbing jobs. Subbing is such a hard job. Avalon and Fake ID sound like books I would like to read. I'll have to watch for your reviews. Come see what I got at Ms. Martin Teaches Media and Inside of a Dog. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteAvalon wasn't really my kind of book, but if you're a Firefly fan, you might love it! I enjoyed Mad Wicked Folly.
ReplyDeleteI'm fascinated with the concept of What Nora Knew -- I might just have to read that one!
Thanks so much for stopping by! Jen @ YA Romantics
I want A Mad, Wicked Folly so badly (and the dress)! It sounds amazing. I hope you end up enjoying Avalon, there is potential there ;) I need to read F-it List still...oops. Hope you enjoy your new books! Happy reading.
ReplyDeleteHere's my Sunday Post & STS at Bookmunchies (:
Ahhh, I want the F-It List, too! I didn't buy it because I'm not entirely sure if I'd like it...I think those kinds of books can be absolute hit or miss. But I'm excited to see how you'll like it :)
ReplyDeleteLol! I just watched that movie this week. :) How awkward was that reformed bully, huh? I wish you luck, Nat. I hope you'll get your certification soon.
ReplyDeleteHappy reading!
I adored A Mad, Wicked Folly! I can't wait to see what you think! I am curious about The Killing Woods as well, but I've been waiting to be in the right frame of mind to enjoy it since it sounds so twisty and dark. :)
ReplyDeleteSabrina @ I Heart Y.A. Fiction
Yay! I really want to read A Mad, Wicked Folly! It looks so good! I have Avalon and am hoping to start that one soon! I also have the Mockingbirds by Daisy and I'm looking forward to it too! I hope you enjoy these Natalie!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed Avalon, hope you do too! And I do want to read The F-it List, but I have to be in that mood. Glad to hear the first chapter was good. Have fun reading! ~Pam
ReplyDeleteCongratz for graduating! And I hope you'll be able to get your teaching certification ASAP.
ReplyDeleteYou've got lovely picks here. I requested Mad, Wicked Folly but got rejected. Hahahaha. I've already read Avalon though and for me, it was really awesome. I really love its heist twist. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did. It's a pity that I wasn't able to download Fake ID when it was still available for download.
Have fun reading! Thanks for stopping by Thoughts and Pens.
I really wished I hadn't passed on A Mad, Wicked Folly...everyone's been pretty positive about that one. :( I do have Avalon, but I'm not sure it's my kind of read after all, and I didn't love her debut either. I'm listening to The Killing Woods right now, and I'm enjoying it. I guess I can see why people are saying it's so different from Stolen, but I'm glad for it...if I wanted to read a book like Stolen, I'd re-read Stolen. :P The narrators are pretty good on the audio, too.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could go to part-time. *sigh* Good luck on the search and I hope you get your certification soon!
