Weekly Rewind

The new books on my shelves, the links I loved, and my week in a nutshell.

Since I started this blog I've participated in Stacking the Shelves, which is a weekly feature hosted by Tyngas Reviews, and I'm going to continue linking to that meme. Throughout my student teaching semester I was using my weekend post as a way to let people know what's going on in my life, so I've decided to rename my weekend post because this feature is more personal than just what books I've received. The Weekly Rewind will be about what's going on with me and my blog, as well as about the books I've added to my shelves, and the links I've enjoyed over the past week from other blogs and the interwebs in general.

My Life and Blog

My Life: As I mentioned last week, tomorrow (Sun the 27) is my graduation/hooding ceremony for my M.Ed that I finished in December. My parents are coming for the ceremony which is cool. I usually only see them once a year, so it will be special. I mentioned last week that I had a ton of cleaning to do. I did some--but not as much as I should have. I'm just not one of those people who loves cleaning. I'm usually fine once I get into the rhythm of cleaning, but deep-down I'm a lazy bastard. It's just who I am. So, yeah, today will be spent scrubbing. They are driving in their motor-home since my dad is allergic to cats--of which we have two--so they won't actually be IN my house all that much.

This week I subbed for three days in the same high school library. It was so awesome. The dude I worked with was totally laid back and I spent half of the time just reading my Kindle. I wish every week was this easy. The only day that was rough was Friday as I stayed up WAY too late watching the AVS game (play off hockey).

The blog: So I learned an important lesson this week. I'll still post what I imagine will be the reviews for the upcoming week (I wish I scheduled my posts further out), but they will be projected reviews. I had every intention of writing something for The Break-Up Artist, but after reading Killer Instinct this week, I just HAD to get that review out of my system.
  • Monday: A review for the book To All the Boys I've Loved Before. This story of a girl whose personal, for her-eyes-only love letters accidentally get sent out was very cute, BUT I was surprised by the cliff-hanger ending on a contemporary book.
  • Wednesday: I'm waiting on Girl on a Wire. Circus + love story! Have you seen this cover?
  • Thursday: I got super rant-y in my review of Killer Instinct. This was the biggest rip-off of Dexter imaginable.
New Books:
May is shaping up to be just as, if not more, hectic than April. I'm a bit overwhelmed, frankly, by all the lovely titles I need to read. Honestly, to the point that I'm slumping a little bit. After finishing Killer Instinct on Tuesday I've struggled to find anything that can hold my attention. I've probably started no less than 10 books, but nothing is snagging me. I'm going to blame that horrible book. I still have the sequel to Pivot Point checked out from the library, so I'm going to give that a go. I know I should read one of these review books, but hopefully that will kick my ass back in gear so that I can.

The Falconer  by Elizabeth May
I've never been into Fae books, but this book looks pretty cool. I'm so in love with that girl's hair. I used to dye mine that color and just looking at this cover makes me miss it so much--but the up-keep was such a pain in the ass.
Chapel Wars by Lindsey Leavitt
This dueling wedding chapels in Las Vegas sounds adorable. I'm excited to read this one.
Royally Lost by Angie Stanton
This book about a girl who hooks up with a run-away prince while vacationing in Europe also sounds super cute.
After the End by Amy Plum
A look at Post-WWIII life in Alaska. I'll go ahead and admit I snagged this one for that cover. What? Don't judge me.
Buzz Kill by Beth Fantaskey
"A fresh and funny teen murder mystery" per GR. I'm always up for one of those.
Only Everything by Kieran Scott
Eros gets banished from Mt. Olympus and must get 3 couples to fall in love without using powers. Sounds different.
Guy in Real Life by Steve Brenzeoff
Two teens meet after she crashes her bike into him which totally reminds me of Dream a Little Dream--the best of the Corey movies.
How to Meet Cute Boys by Catherine Clark
A girl falls for her best friend's worst enemy. I have to admit that the star ratings for this have me a bit weary, but I hope I enjoy it.
Killer Instinct by SE Green
Boo-urns.

What I snagged from the library

Open Road Summer by Emery Lord
Yay! All my buddies are loving this one, so I'm excited to dive in.
Per GR: "From Late Night with David Letterman and Saturday Night Live to Seinfeld, The Ellen Show, and Modern Family, Carol has written for and/or performed on some of the best TV comedies of all time."

Link Love

Will return next week. I was slammed this week, and didn't make the rounds like I wanted to. So if you commented on any of my posts this week--I'm sorry if I didn't make it over to you. I hope to be better next week.

Anticipated Reviews
Again, from now on I'm going to post anticipated reviews because who knows what is going to strike me as necessary to talk about next week.

Well that's it for me this week. Feel free to leave a link to whatever weekend post you do (Stacking the Shelves, In My Mailbox, etc). I love to see what books people have recently snagged and especially enjoy hearing about my fellow bloggers' weeks. I hope you are all having a fabulous weekend!

  1. I hate cleaning as well. The bathroom gets a full scrub down once a week and I swear that it comes round quicker each week. And five minutes after you finish, you see it looks as dirty as it was before you started! Grrr...I hope you get your book mojo back and get lots of good reading done over the next few weeks.

  2. Oohhh, that stack is gorgeous. But also: just reading your Kindle in the library?! BLIESS OF A JOB. Pity that's not like normal-working-life, eh!!? (Although I guess it could get a bit slow sometimes. xD) For the first time, like, this whole YEAR, I've only got 4 books on my TBR. I don't know what to do with myself... o.O lol!

  3. Congratulations on your graduation!! I'm not much of a fan of cleaning either :)

I really want to read Royally Lost and Guy in Real Life. How to Meet Boys has a really cute cover. I'm going to have to check that one out on goodreads.

After the End was a cute story.

I hope you enjoy all of your new books and enjoy your graduation/time with your parents!!

  6. I'm so jealous that you are graduating. I have 2 more years and frankly this last semester killed my soul! Also, I'm looking forward to your thoughts on The Falconer! Like you, I'm not big on books about Fae, but I'm hoping I will enjoy it anyways! Wishing you a good work week!

  7. Great haul this week! Even though I know I've seen some mixed things, I loved After the End. So I hope you enjoy it! :D Falconer looks really good, I'm hoping to tackle that one soon.
Have a great grad ceremony!! Ha you sound a bit like me when it comes to cleaning. Don't worry, they will be so proud of you, I doubt your parents will notice a few dust bunnies!

  8. Hope you had a fun graduation! So many great books you got…I really enjoyed The Falconer, and I've heard great things about The Chapel Wars (I really liked Going Vintage). And After the End, I can't wait for that one. Open Road Summer…I enjoyed it, but I was a bit disappointed. I look forward to reading your thoughts on that one. Have fun reading! ~Pam

  10. Ahhh, there are so many books I want to read right now, and one of them is Open Road Summer, everybody seems to be loving it, so hoping it won't be any different with me. By the time you read this you've probably already had the grad ceremony so Congratulations! Hope you had fun. :)!

  11. Nice haul! You've got a lot of brilliant looking books waiting to be read. I finished To All The Boys today and was surprised by the cliffhanger ending too, I hadn't realised it was the start of a series before that. Open Road Summer looks so good, I am a little desperate to read that one myself. I hope you enjoy all of your books :) My STS.

  12. Congratulations on your hooding ceremony!!! That is so exciting! Your job at the library sounded amazing. I wish I had a job like that. I've been sneaking peaks at my calendar for May and have been freaking out about it. SO many books. So not enough time. It seems like it's going to be crazier than April for sure.

I liked HOW TO MEET BOYS but it probably could've been a lot better. I was planning on starting ROYALLY LOST this weekend but I've heard that the main character is insufferable and is a whiny baby about having to go to Europe in the first place. I would kill to go visit over there. I'm really worried about reading it now.

Hello, there! Thanks for taking the time to comment. I read each and every one and will do my best to respond--usually on your blog instead of on mine. I will, however, always answer direct questions. Due to serious time restraints, this blog is now an award free zone, but I appreciate the thought!
