Weekly Rewind

The new books on my shelves, the links I loved, and my week in a nutshell.

Since I started this blog I've participated in Stacking the Shelves, which is a weekly feature hosted by Tyngas Reviews, and I'm going to continue linking to that meme. Throughout my student teaching semester I was using my weekend post as a way to let people know what's going on in my life, so I've decided to rename my weekend post because this feature is more personal than just what books I've received. The Weekly Rewind will be about what's going on with me and my blog, as well as about the books I've added to my shelves, and the links I've enjoyed over the past week from other blogs and the interwebs in general.

My Life and Blog

Life: Not a whole lot to report this week. Between the office, and the library, and subbing I feel like I'm just running all the time. It's sad but true that I actually use my time at the office to write posts and catch up on commenting. I subbed twice this week. Once for a 4th-grade class. Elementary is exhausting--but at least I got recess. The other was for 7th-grade English.

Blog: My blog turned one this week! I knew it was sometime in April, but I was thinking I had another week or so. Anyway it completely snuck up on me and while I was planning on doing a giveaway or something, it just didn't happen. I do plan on doing something soon--I'm also almost at 250 BL followers, so hopefully I'll be able to get my act together sometime this Spring, so keep your eyes open for some sort of giveaway. I do want to take a moment to say thank you so much to all of those lovely people who stop by my blog and read and comment on my posts.
  • Monday:  An early review of the book Rebel Belle. This action comedy is pretty fun, but it had some issues and I didn't love it. I will pick up the second book when it comes out.
  • Tuesday: nada
  • Wednesday: I'm waiting on the conclusion to the Burn for Burn series Ashes to Ashes. I adore this series and would definitely recommend if you haven't picked up the first book yet.
  • Thursday: A discussion post Where I Admit to Never Reading NA.
  • Friday: I talk about how Natflix&Books is Now One!
New Books:
I cannot even begin to tell you how excited for all three of the review books I'm sharing with you today. So without further adieu. I hope that you are all having fabulous weekends!

The Geography of You and Me by Jennifer E. Smith
I'm about halfway through this YA romance about two teens that meet during a city-wide blackout and spend the night together. I'm loving it so far and have been trying to read it slowly.
What I Thought Was True by Huntley Fitzpatrick
I loved My Life Next Door and am so excited to dive into this one next. Summer time romance set in a Nantucket-like environment? Yes, please!!
House of Ivy and Sorrow by Natalie Whipple
Of all the paranormal creatures, witches are definitely my favorite. Plus that cover is just so cool.

What I bought

6574102 7227174

Heist Society by Ally Carter
I've already read this book about a girl who need to pull off the ultimate art heist--twice--but I couldn't resist picking it up when I saw it at Half Price Books during a recent trip.
Fly Away Home by Jennifer Weiner
I've also read this novel about the aftermath of a senator's affair in relation to his wife and two daughters, but I cannot for the life of me remember a single detail. I'm looking forward to rereading this one (and seeing if I remember any of it--lol).

What I snagged from the library

Grave Mercy  by Robin LaFevers
This is probably the 3rd or 4th time I've checked this out. I really do want to read it--assassin nuns!--but the size is kind of intimidating and I just have SO many April arcs to get through. We'll see.
Snow White & Rose Red by Kallie George
I just couldn't resist checking out this beautifully illustrated version of my favorite fairy tale.

Link Love

  • Catherine from Stray Imaginations actually posted this awesome post about Girl Shaming in Romance Novels a few weeks ago, but I just discovered it.
  • Jen and April discuss Co-Blogging on their blog Starry-Eyed Revue.
  • Speaking of co-bloggers, the girls of Books of Amber wrote a joint review for Dare Me that had me cracking up with their vastly different opinions.
Well that's it for me this week. Feel free to leave a link to whatever weekend post you do (Stacking the Shelves, In My Mailbox, etc). I love to see what books people have recently snagged and especially enjoy hearing about my fellow bloggers' weeks. I hope you are all having a fabulous weekend!

  1. Congrats on your blog's birthday! :) The Geography of You and Me was quick and cute read, but I didn't really warm up for Grave Mercy. I hope it's different for you. Great haul - enjoy your books and have a great weekend!

  2. Subbing 7th grade English? Awesome. When I taught that was my favorite grade…..6th grade drove me nuts. Awesome books! I am so jealous you have What I Thought Was True. I can't wait to hear your thoughts. I am dying to read it. Grave Mercy was pretty entertaining. I didn't love it as much as everyone else though…the length was a downfall for me. Can't wait to hear your thoughts! Enjoy your weekend!

  3. I haven't read any of these but happy reading!

Subbing is so...draining (in my opinion). Hope you have more luck!

  6. I'm so jealous of What I Thought was True. I'm dying to read that. Sometimes, I'd much rather read personal thoughts than book reviews, to be honest. So even if you haven't been posting bookish things, your thoughts are always appreciated.

    Have a great week!

  7. I read The Geography of You and Me last week and found it to be pretty cute - not the best I've read from Jennifer E. Smith, but still quite enjoyable. I love the cover for Huntley Fitzpatrick's book!
Happy reading and have a good weekend!
And congrats on the blog birthday :)

  8. Jealous! I got the preview of What I Thought Was True, but they shot me down for the full-length copy. :( Still, I used my Amazon $$ to preorder that one and The Geography of You and Me. So, I'll get to read them pretty soon. :D Congrats again on the blogoversary! Hope you enjoy all your new reads!

  9. Congrats on the blogoversary!!!

You got some great stuff! I avoided the What I Thought Was True preview -- I hate previews, which feel to me like giving me a slice of chocolate cake and then yanking it away after two bites. I know I will love that book, so I am ordering it!
Thanks so much for stopping by! Jen @ YA Romantics

  13. You sound so busy, hun! I hope next week settles down a bit for you :)

House of Ivy looks gorgeous and sounds like a good read, too! And I just read Grave Mercy, the ebook was *only* 363 pages, but it did take me longer than a typical YA read. I've heard book 2 is even better, so there's an incentive to get started ;)

  16. Happy blogoversary!!! :) I recently read What I Thought Was True and wasn't the biggest fan, which sucks because My Life Next Door is one of my favourites. House of Ivy & Sorrow looks great though. I hope you enjoy all of your books :) My STS.

Hello, there! Thanks for taking the time to comment. I read each and every one and will do my best to respond--usually on your blog instead of on mine. I will, however, always answer direct questions. Due to serious time restraints, this blog is now an award free zone, but I appreciate the thought!
