Free to Fall

Author: Lauren Miller
Publisher: Harper Teen
Release Date: May 13, 2014
Link to Goodreads; synopsis from Edelweiss:

The Adjustment Bureau meets Matched in this high-stakes romance set in a near-future world where the entire population is controlled by its personal electronic devices.

Sixteen-year-old Rory Vaughn has always consulted her Lux for everything. Like everyone else, Rory knows the key to a happy, healthy life is doing whatever the decision-making app on her Lux tells her to. When she's accepted at her dream school, the elite boarding school Theden Academy, her future happiness seems assured. But it doesn't take long for her to realize something is wrong beneath the polished surface of her prestigious school. Then she meets North, a handsome hacker living without a Lux, and she begins to fall for his outsider way of life. Soon, Rory is going against Lux's recommendations and instead listening to the voice within (the voice that kids are taught to ignore).

Free to Fall is a smart, romantic, and twisty novel from the author of Parallel.

Why I'm Excited:

I was impressed and really enjoyed Lauren Miller's Parallel and am a sucker for the movie The Adjustment Bureau (although I despised Matched, so points off for that). I really need to write a review on that movie--the chemistry between Matt Damon and Emily Blunt is absolutely incredible. Anywho, this sounds really intriguing. I'll read just about anything set in a boarding school, and when you add in the word "twisty", I'm sold. I'm crossing my fingers this one pops up on EW.

  1. I haven't read The Parallel nor have I seen The Adjustment Bureau. I had a so-so time with Matched but this book already sounds like a good combo.

    Thanks for the heads up!

  2. I haven't read The Parallel or seen The Adjustment Bureau, but I really want to see see that movie. I really liked Matched (but not book two in the series and gave up), so I should probably check this one out. I love a good sci-fi and the setting sounds awesome. Thanks for sharing this one!

  7. I'm really enjoying the parallel concept right now (just finishing up Tandem) and this looks like another great read by Lauren Miller. I love this cover almost as much as Parallel. Great pick Natalie :)

  9. I really want to read this one too! At first I thought it was part of the PARALLEL series, but I'm glad it's not considering I haven't read that book yet. This sounds like it is going to be really good. I hope it gets on EW, too. My only problem is that every time I see the name "North" I'm going to envision Kim & Kanye's baby.

Also, this is completely irrelevant but I wanted to tell you. I had bought a copy of ANNA & THE FRENCH KISS that I was going to get Stephanie Perkins to sign for you at YALLFest on Saturday. I knew how much you really liked her and wanted to surprise you. Unfortunately, though, I didn't make her signing :( I barely missed her and she couldn't stop and sign it because she was late to her next panel. I was so bummed.

  11. Oh this sounds really good! I liked the Adjustment Bureau, but I agree with you on Matched---I hope it doesn't have that cold futuristic feel like that one did.

Hello, there! Thanks for taking the time to comment. I read each and every one and will do my best to respond--usually on your blog instead of on mine. I will, however, always answer direct questions. Due to serious time restraints, this blog is now an award free zone, but I appreciate the thought!
