Weekly Rewind

The new books on my shelves and my week in a nutshell.

Throughout my student teaching semester I was using my weekend post as a way to let people know what's going on in my life, so I'v decided to rename my weekend post because this feature is more personal than just what books I've received. The Weekly Rewind will be about what's going on with me and my blog, as well as about the books I've added to my shelves. This post is linked to Stacking the Shelves over at Tynga's Reviews and the Sunday Post over at Caffeinated Book Reviewer

My Life and Blog

Life: I haven't written one of these in a couple of weeks. I was sooooo sick a couple of weeks ago, and last week, my husband came down to VA for the weekend and I just never got around to the blog. Not a whole lot is going on at the moment. Yesterday was the last day of the semester. Halfway there!

Blog and reading: I posted a WoW this week and a review for the book Scythe. I finally finished The Boy Came Back--which was really cute. I'm currently reading Magpie Murders and kind of By Your Side. As much as I love Kasie West...this one isn't really doing it for me. I've been slogging through it very slowly for about a month now and doubt I'll finish it by its release date.

New Books: Just a few this week. So without further ado, I hope you are all having fabulous weekends!

By Your Side by Kasie West
I'm struggling with this one...and I'm really disappointed in this cover. You couldn't take a photo in an actual library? Throwing a bunch of books on the floor doesn't symbolize library to me.
My Not So Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella
I love a good Kinsella book. I need to get on this one!
Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz
This doesn't come out until June, but I've been in the mood for dark and adult and got hooked after reading the first couple of pages. It's a novel in a novel book (although at a quarter of the way through, it's really just been the "novel" inside so far--but good).
The Lost Girl of Astor Street  by Stephanie Morrill
Set in the 1920s in the underbelly of Chicago, a girl tries to solve her friend's murder. It sounds interesting, but it's not getting the best reviews...

What I snagged from the library

Carve the Mark by Veronica Mark
I didn't actually love Divergent. I thought the premise was rather ridiculous and didn't finish the series (yes, I know how it ends). That said, I found Roth's writing fast-paced and easy, so I'm excited to read something new from her.
You Don't Know My Name by Kristen Orlando
A girl who is expected to follow in her family's footsteps and join a powerful spy group falls in love with the boy next door. I cannot resist spies! I don't know what it is.

Well that's it for me this week. Feel free to leave a link to whatever weekend post you do (Stacking the Shelves, The Sunday Post, etc). I love to see what books people have recently snagged and especially enjoy hearing about my fellow bloggers' weeks. I hope you are all having a fabulous weekend!

  1. Nice haul! I'm not too interested in Carve the Mark because I wasn't a big fan of the Divergent series but that cover is gorgeous. :)

  2. Nice haul of books this week. I didn't like By Your Side very much either. I think I'm going to DNF it as I have other books that need to be read. Sometimes RL has to take priority.

  3. I liked By Your Side a lot but several of my bloggy friends didn't enjoy it, sadly. :/ I love West's books and I liked this one but I will freely admit that this one wasn't here best. Now, Carve the Mark... I loved Divergent but hated the rest of the series. I read Carve the Mark and I thought it was good, but a little problematic. Good enough to make me want to read the sequel though. Anyway, I hope you enjoy all of your new books!

Have a fabulous weekend, Natalie. =)

    Check out my STS post!

  4. Spies are definitely fun so hopefully You Don't Know My Name will be a good one. And I was curious to see what Veronica roth would do next so I was looking forward to her new book, but I'm ndecided if it appeals t me or not.

  5. Everyone seems to be getting sick lately! I'm glad to hear you're feeling better now. I've been downing the vitamins to try and beat back whatever is going around!
I LOL at what you said about the By Your Side cover. That's hilarious. And it had the potential to be such an amazing cover if they HAD just shot inside a real library. :/

  6. I hope you are feeling better! I'm sorry to hear By Your Side isn't very compelling. I started Astor Street and put it down about fifty pages into it. I just wasn't feeling it, which is a shame b/c I like the premise and the historical setting. Hopefully you'll have better luck with it. I hope you have a good week!

  7. I've been hearing lots of negatives or "meh" opinions on By Your Side. I've only read one other book by her (P.S. I Like You) and I liked it so I requested this one for review. I've decided to move it down my TBR pile for now. I don't know if I'll read Carve the Mark. I liked Divergent but didn't think the sequel was as good and ended up not finishing the series when the final book was accidentally spoiled for me.

I forgot about the new Sophie Kinsella. I'll have to read that soon. I could use a good laugh about now.

Hope you have a great week!

  8. Boo on being sick, and heck yes when the hubby arrives for a visit the blogging gets set aside. I hope you both had an awesome weekend!

Hello, there! Thanks for taking the time to comment. I read each and every one and will do my best to respond--usually on your blog instead of on mine. I will, however, always answer direct questions. Due to serious time restraints, this blog is now an award free zone, but I appreciate the thought!
