The Weekly Rewind

The new books on my shelves and my week in a nutshell.

Throughout my student teaching semester I was using my weekend post as a way to let people know what's going on in my life, so I've decided to rename my weekend post because this feature is more personal than just what books I've received. The Weekly Rewind will be about what's going on with me and my blog, as well as about the books I've added to my shelves. This post is linked to Stacking the Shelves over at Tynga's Reviews and the Sunday Post over at Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

My Life and Blog

Life: One more week of school until Spring Break! I'm soooooo ready for a week off...at home...with my love and my bed and my books. Almost there. I'm in VA this weekend. Three of my fellow English teachers are getting married this summer, so we are having a joint wedding shower for them. I'm not invited to any of the weddings, but whatever. It will be fun. I completely understand having to cut off the guest list somewhere, and while I get along with all three, we don't hang out outside of school. I kind of hate showers, but I usually just sit inside my room on the weekends I stay here, so it will be nice to socialize for a little while. It's early in the afternoon, so I'll still have tomorrow night to burrow into my chair and watch tv. I have a ton of grading to get done over the weekend, too (although that's my own fault. I procastinated all week, and now I have to work all weekend).

Blog and reading: Nothing on the blog because I left my laptop charger at home last weekend. My husband mailed it to me and it just showed up today--just in time to type up this post. I finished reading Mrs. Fletcher last night. I liked it, but all of the characters had the same sadness that those in Little Children did. Certainly worth reading, though. I love Tom Perrotta. I'm still reading 13 Reasons Why; Alex, Approximately; and rereading To All the Boys I've Loved Before. I'm almost done with all three, though, and hope to finish them all this weekend (although we'll see...again, I have a ton of grading that has to be my priority).

New Books: I have some awesome titles to share with you today. So without further ado, I hope you're all having fabulous weekends!

The Upside of the Unrequited by Becky Albertalli
I loved Simon vs. the Homo Sapien Agenda, so I have high hopes for this one.
If We Were Villians by M.L. Rio
Ok, so this is going to sound crazy, but I LOVE books about pretentious college students. Throw in some Shakespeare and a murder mystery and I am in heaven.
Given to the Sea by Mindy McGinnis
The synosis of this doesn't do a whole lot for me, but after seriously loving her amazing last book, The Female of the Species, I'm going to give this a try.
Alex & Eliza by Melissa de la Cruz
I don't have Hamilton fever, although I would love to see the play someday. Regardless, I am looking forward to this love story between Alexander Hamilton and Eliza Schuyler.
Literally by Lucy Keating
This character finds out she is a character book sounds like a cross between Stranger Than Fiction and Ruby Sparks, two books I really enjoyed.
Spindle Fire by Lexa Hillyer
I always want to read fairytale retellings, but I rarely enjoy them. This Sleeping Beauty retelling sounds pretty badass, though, so I have high hopes.
Unearthly Things by Michelle Gagnon
This is a modern YA Jane Eyre retelling. It certainly sounds interesting.

What I snagged from the library

Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde
So in love with this hair. A ComicCon-like setting is a great draw, as well.
Movie:
Allied
I've been looking forward to this historical drama. I find it interesting that everytime Brad Pitt plays a spy, one of his marriages ends, though.

Well that's it for me this week. Feel free to leave a link to whatever weekend post you do (Stacking the Shelves, The Sunday Post, etc). I love to see what books people have recently snagged and especially enjoy hearing about my fellow bloggers' weeks. I hope you are all having a fabulous weekend!

  1. Have fun at the shower. I loathe showers -- they are tortue, so I hope you can have fun somehow. Maybe there's some booze? haha. I am on the waiting list at the library for Allied. I can't wait to see it. I also read Unearthly Things and thought it was a fun YA retelling. It's not perfect, but it was decent and suspenseful. I am currently reading Alex & Eliza now. So far so good even though de la Cruz's books usually don't work for me. Have a great weekend!

  4. My spring break was last week and, well, I miss spring break. o_o This week was incredibly painful - I want to go to back to sleeping in! Le sigh. I read Given to the Sea but sadly it disappointed me; I think it's time for me to break up with McGinnis's books. :/ I hope you enjoy all of your new books!

Have a fabulous weekend, Natalie. =)

    Check out my STS post!

  8. Ohhh I got to read Queens of Geek and absolutely loved it! It was my favorite read so far this year! Hope you enjoy it too. I can't wait to see what you think of Spindle Fire. I'm really excited about that one. Hope you have a great week!

  9. I hope the joint wedding shower is fun. I am not a big fan of them either, admittedly--but I suppose a lot depends on who it is for and the type of party it is. :-) Hopefully you enjoyed it! I love the cover of Given to the Sea and Unearthly Things. I hope you enjoy all your new books. Have a great week!

  10. Queen of Geeks does sound good...but dang a week in bed with my books sounds heavenly! Bummer about the charger and yeah I totally get the limited wedding invites. Have a great week!

  11. I work in a classroom and this is our week off. I plan to read like crazy and write reviews. I'm surprised that you were invited to these showers, but not to the weddings. Is this shower organized by the teachers at your school? I would think it's hard on most people to buy three wedding gifts, Good luck with your grading, and I hope you get some time for yourself.

  12. I'm not a big fan of showers either--I'm no social butterfly and usually the games are a little cheesy lol. I hope you enjoy all the new books! I'm curious to know your thoughts on Unearthly Things and Literally---excited for both of those!

  13. Ahh Spring break. My kids will be back to school after a week off tomorrow so they're sad puppies. Lol.

I hope you'll enjoy your much-needed, totally deserved time off!

  14. Hope you have a great weekend, showers and all. :) Alex Approximately and Given to the Sea are two I've been curious on. And I'm reading Queens of geek now too. Just started it a few days ago, but it hasn't been a good reading week. Not enough time.

    Enjoy spring break!

Hello, there! Thanks for taking the time to comment. I read each and every one and will do my best to respond--usually on your blog instead of on mine. I will, however, always answer direct questions. Due to serious time restraints, this blog is now an award free zone, but I appreciate the thought!
