Today's topic: The top 10 books I pick up when I need something light and fun

Anna and the French Kiss       The Boy Next Door (Boy, #1)       Gimme a Call

Anna and the French Kiss  by Stephanie Perkins
My number one go-to book when I just need a contemporary fairy-tale romance. This book is so sweet it gives me a toothache. (And yes, I'm aware that this book keeps showing up on all of my lists.)
The Boy Next Door by Meg Cabot
Meg Cabot is the queen of the fluffy and light. This is the first of three loosely-related books told entirely through emails. Cute, quick, and funny.
Gimme a Call  by Sarah Mlynowski
A funny story about a senior in high school who discovers she can call her freshman self on her broken cell phone and starts to use it so that she can change her life.

Heist Society (Heist Society, #1)      Can You Keep a Secret?       The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (Sisterhood, #1)

Heist Society  by Ally Carter
This book is just so fun. A teenage spy who works a crew like a young, female George Clooney in Ocean's Eleven? Yes, please!
Can you Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella
This book is the epitome of fluff, but I love it. It's so cute and funny.
The perfect friendship/summer book (and series). I love these girls.

Sh*t My Dad SaysGirls Night inGoodnight NobodySloppy Firsts (Jessica Darling, #1)

Shit My Dad Says by Justin Halpern
This book is hilarious. It's mostly just quotes of the funny things his father has said over the years. Very simple, but I love it. Good example: “The dog is not bored. It’s not like he’s waiting for me to give him a fucking Rubik’s Cube. He’s a goddamned dog.”
Girls Night In  by a whole slew of awesome authors like Meg Cabot, Sarah Mylnowski, Sophie Kinsella, and Mariam Keyes.
This is a fun compilation of short stories from some of chick-lit's best authors.
Goodnight Nobody by Jennifer Weiner
I love the breezy mystery and this is one of my favorites. It's still a typical Jennifer Weiner, but also a murder mystery.
Sloppy Firsts by Megan McCafferty
Again, I know I've used this book for more than one list, but I just love it. I love the whole series and wish Jessica Darling was my best friend. This probably isn't the last list you'll see me put this book on.

So what about you? What are the books you turn to when you just want something light and fun? Leave me a comment below.

  1. I loved the Shit My Dad Says Twitter feed and having it all collected in one place is the perfect "turn my brain off and just enjoy this" read.

  2. I haven't read most of these, but I do love me some Ally Carter. Her books are so fun! I've only read the first books in the Gallagher Girls series and the Heist Society one -- I need to read the rest. They really are the perfect light, fun reads!

  3. Gimme a Call sounds so cute! I really must read it. Great list and thanks for stopping by! :)

  4. I love Sophie Kinsella. It's been a while since I read one of her books, and I haven't read Can You Keep A Secret? yet. Maybe I'll put that on my summer reading list.

  5. Thanks for visiting! Your list is awesome! I love all things Ally Carter. I have only read the first Jessica Darling book, but I plan to finish one of these days...I own them, so no excuse. Shit My Dad Says is hilarious. I should have included Bossypants by Tina Fey on my list...that is comic gold.

  6. Our lists are very similar! I am happy to see someone else put The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants on their list! I have also been debating whether or not to pick up The Heist Society but I am thinking I will! Realized I need more light reads!

  7. sophie kinsella is a big hit today. i also loved The Boy Next Door and the others in that series. so cute & i love the way they were told. i think the only book on this list i haven't read is the sisterhood of the traveling pants, but i've seen the movie, so that totally counts, right? great list! ~daphne

  8. Gimme A Call sounds so cute! I think I'll have to add it to my TBR pile. I also agree about Anna and The Sisterhood books! Great list!

  10. Oh, I'm so happy you visited my blog earlier! Otherwise I would have never stumbled upon yours and I wouldn't have discovered that you and I seem to have the exact same taste in books :) I've always loved Cabot's writing (although I am getting a bit tired of her YA voice, I might turn more towards her adult novels) and Anna and the French Kiss was SO cute! The sisterhood books seriously are awesome and Sophie Kinsella and Ally Carter have been on my list of authors to check out for a while! I'm totally going to make sure to add all of your other recommendations to my TBR list on Goodreads - they all sound really interesting!

  11. I love Heist Society! Gimme a Call looks like a fun one as well! :)

  12. Obviously agree on the Heist Society books! It's been a long time, but I remember liking the Sisterhood series as well. And I did like Jessica Darling, though mostly books 2 and 3—Sloppy Firsts fell flat for me.

  13. I almost added "Traveling Pants" to my own list but I was afraid all the serious bits about cancer, family troubles, etc. would take it out of the "light" category. But then I ended up including books with strong themes of divorce/infidelity and alcoholism, so I probably should have just kept "Traveling Pants" in my top ten. The parts in Greece are my favorite :-)

  14. Yay for Ann Brashares!! <3 Her. I actually just got one of her other novels just recently too. I think (off the top of my head) it's The Summer of You and I. I also have Stephanie Perkin's book.. but haven't read it yet. Oy! Playing catch up is so hard sometimes!!

ps. GREAT review of Nantucket Blue :) I'm still a little unsure if I want to read it though. However, I love the name Cricket!

  15. Yay for Anna and the French Kiss! :D
The Heist Society series is a fun and light read too Natalie!
    Great list!
Thanks for stopping by my TTT! (:

  16. Yay for Anna! Everyone just loves that book! I definitely want to read Sloppy Firsts! I've heard awesome things about it!!!

Thanks for stopping by earlier Natalie!

  17. I need to get hold of Anna and the French Kiss but sadly it's not in our library system. I'm not even sure it's had a UK release. Sad times!

  18. Heist Society has been on my TBR for such a long time, I really need to get started on that one!

  19. I hadn't heard about Gimme a Call but it sounds great, thanks! Excellent list!

  20. I love it that you have Anna and the French Kiss on there! Great choice!
Happy Reading! I am going to check out the other ones. They sound fantastic!! :)

Thanks for stopping by The Windy Pages earlier!

  21. I can't believe I left the Heist Society books off my list! I ADORE them! Ally Carter is such a talented author. I'm reading Sisterhood this summer. It seems like it would be the perfect summer read.

    Great list!

  22. I read Anna today and it was fantastic! I'm thinking I may read Heist Society next, to hold me over until I get Lola and The Boy Next Door.

  23. I love Stephanie Perkins, Meg Cabot and Sophie Kinsella! Can You Keep a Secret? is definitely one of the funniest books I've ever read. And I really have to get started on Meg Cabot's contemporary titles.

  24. I really should get around to reading some Stephanie Perkins! :D

  25. Awww yeah I see Anna and Sisterhood just like you said :D

Read Ella Enchanted! One of my favourite childhood reads but it's timeless.

  26. I really could have added The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants to my list. Those books are super adorable! And I've been wanting to read The Boy Next Door, I need to get the ball rolling on that one.

  27. So many amazing books! I forgot about Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and Sloppy Firsts...so good! Thanks for sharing!

  28. Ally Carter, Meg Cabot, and Steph Perkins are so perfect for fun reading. Great list!

  29. Yay everyone's picking Anna and the French Kiss :D Lots of good choices Natalie! Thanks for stopping by my TTT the other day :)
