Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme/original feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Click the link to go to their site to see the original list for today plus links to a whole slew of other blogs. After you read mine, of course.

Today's topic is: Top ten eight books that were required reading in some way (school or friend badgering, etc).

The Perks of Being a Wallflower  by Stephen Chobosky
This was one of those books I felt everyone in the world had read but me. I struggled through the first part of the book before setting it aside. I recently picked up the audio and ended up loving it. I'm glad I gave it a second chance.
A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
This book is crazy and violent and weird and just awesome. It's awesome.
The Rules of Attraction by Bret Easton Ellis
This is one of my best friend's favorite books. It's an amazing and strange and kind of dark look at college life.
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
There's a reason why this story gets written over and over again. Nobody comes close to Lizzy and Darcy. Nobody.
Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
People kept telling me this book was awesome, but I wouldn't listen. They were right.
Harry Potter by JK Rowling
Again, everybody and their mother told me I would love these. I waited until all the books were out before picking up the first one. I've read the whole series three times now.
A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L'Engle
I have a lot of love for this book. I've read it several times over the years.
Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein
I don't know if this would really be required reading, but I remember getting this book. I loved it and read it constantly.

That's all I can think of for now. I'm sure more will come to me, but it's bedtime. What books made your list? Link me up!

  1. I love Where the Sidewalk Ends. I read it too and I know it was related to school but perhaps it was just recommended? I don't recall but loved it regardless. A Clockwork Orange was an experience to say the least. Great list!

  3. The Rules of Attraction was one of my favorite books at one time...love Bret Easton Ellis (although I did not read American Psycho, no way). And Pride and Prejudice...love that book. I read that once in awhile and it just makes me smile. Great list! ~Pam

  6. Oh, this is the second time today that I see A Wrinkle in Time. I guess I should really get to it, right? I really, really love this week's topic for exactly that reason. Seeing what other people had to read - and actually liked :D

  7. I love your list, even though I STILL haven't read Pride and Prejudice, despite lots of people telling me that I must do so. I'm sure I will read it, eventually....

  8. I've heard A WRINKLE IN TIME is really good and I want to read it. I read the first four Harry Potter books forever ago and never finished the series, though I want to some day. And I chose to read WATER FOR ELEPHANTS for a book project thing in high school and liked it.

  11. Great post, Natalie. I need to read A Wrinkle in Time and Clockwork Orange. Harry Potter is something that I probably won't be able to get to but I'm saving those for my kids. I will force-feed them those books. Lol.

  12. I love reading Where the Sidewalk Ends to my daughter. Shel Silverstein was a favorite of mine growing up. I am sad to say that I *still* haven't read A Wrinkle in Time. I know I need to remedy that soon. But when will I ever find the time?!?

  13. At first I thought that these were all books you had to read in school. I was about to comment that you had some awesome teachers. Harry Potter? Teacher of the year material, right there! But I read your statements about each and I'm so glad you let your friends persuade you to read most of these. HP is a classic. OMG. LOVE A Wrinkle in Time. That book is on my top 5 favorite books of all time and will never be brought down from that spot. I fell in love with it in middle school and have probably read it a good 6-7 times since. It'll never get old. Did you ever see the movie adaptation? It was a low budget movie and it showed, sadly. And yay for Shel Silverstein!! Have all of his collections!

Hello, there! Thanks for taking the time to comment. I read each and every one and will do my best to respond--usually on your blog instead of on mine. I will, however, always answer direct questions. Due to serious time restraints, this blog is now an award free zone, but I appreciate the thought!
