Love, Lies and Spies

Author: Cindy Anstey
Publisher: Swoon Reads
Release Date: April 19, 2016

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Juliana Telford is not your average nineteenth-century young lady. She’s much more interested in researching ladybugs than marriage, fashionable dresses, or dances. So when her father sends her to London for a season, she’s determined not to form any attachments. Instead, she plans to secretly publish their research.

Spencer Northam is not the average young gentleman of leisure he appears. He is actually a spy for the War Office, and is more focused on acing his first mission than meeting eligible ladies. Fortunately, Juliana feels the same, and they agree to pretend to fall for each other. Spencer can finally focus, until he is tasked with observing Juliana’s traveling companions . . . and Juliana herself.

Why I'm Excited:
That cover! I will always--always--be drawn to graphic black and white covers, and this one is amazing. I almost don't even care what this is about...although it actually sounds like a fun love story about two independent souls. Will definitely be keeping my eyes open for this one.

  1. Umm, this sounds SO GOOD. I actually am in the middle of a series binge read (yeah, guilty as charged!) of the Something Strange and Deadly series, which is set in this era, and also includes a female MC that's not really interested in the whole marriage thing. I'm loving it, which makes me think that I'm going to absolutely ADORE this book. It sounds super intriguing, and I love how each MC isn't who they seem they are. Plus, you're right, that cover is sooo pretty. I don't see enough black and white covers!!

Thanks so much for sharing, Natalie! <33

  2. I can see why the cover reeled you in, Natalie. My first thought when I saw it here was: WOW, and I need that illustration in my life!

This sounds like it might be a cute historical novel, and also I LOVE the fact that the female main character are more into researching ladybirds than attending balls and dressing up.

I noticed in your profile that you wanted to store the smell of books if you could, well someone already did that for you ;) I have not tried it myself but there is this perfume called 'Paper passion' and it is supposed to smell like freshly printed books. That sure is something haha :D I am wishing you a lovely Wednesday(not so lovely here where I live, Norway, were it has been pouring down all night).

Hello, there! Thanks for taking the time to comment. I read each and every one and will do my best to respond--usually on your blog instead of on mine. I will, however, always answer direct questions. Due to serious time restraints, this blog is now an award free zone, but I appreciate the thought!
