Weekly Rewind
The new books on my shelves and my week in a nutshell.

Since I started this blog I've participated in Stacking the Shelves, which is a weekly feature hosted by Tynga's Reviews, and I'm going to continue linking to that meme. Throughout my student teaching semester I was using my weekend post as a way to let people know what's going on in my life, so I've decided to rename my weekend post because this feature is more personal than just what books I've received. The Weekly Rewind will be about what's going on with me and my blog, as well as about the books I've added to my shelves.

My Life and Blog

Life: I'm sticking around VA this weekend instead of driving home. I was there for five days last week for Thanksgiving break, and just need a relaxing weekend without an eight-hour round trip drive. My throat started hurting yesterday, and feel even worse today, so I have a feeling I'm going to spend the entire weekend in bed. I hate being sick, but at least I have the weekend to hopefully just get through it. I honestly couldn't believe how quickly this week went. I thought these three weeks between breaks was going to crawl, but this week flew by. We are currently working on non-fiction texts and organizational patterns. They did a small research project this week and presented to the class, which they pretend to hate, but I think most of them enjoyed it.

Blog and reading: I posted a TTT and a WoW this week. I was hoping to get a review up, but just couldn't get my shit together. This week I finished reading Career of Evil and finished listening to Wildflower. I'm currently reading Killer Instinct and am listening to Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl.

New books: Just a couple of review books to share this week, as well as a handful of library books. So without further ado, I hope you are all having fabulous weekends!

For Review

Half in Love With Death by Emily Ross
I was immediately drawn to this cover, title, and synopsis about being: "Inspired by the disturbing case of Charles Schmid, ‘the Pied Piper of Tucson'" (which is, admittedly, not a case I'm familiar with.
This is Why You're Single by Laura Lane and Angela Spera
So, I'm not single (and haven't been for going on two decades now), but this is written by two sketch comedy writers and sounds pretty funny, so I decided to give it a try.

What I snagged from the library

Books:
Killer Instinct (The Naturals #2) by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
The fairly recent release of the third book reminded me that I never read the second one. Currently reading. While I don't really LOVE her books, I just find her writing immensely readable. She always sucks me in and I do like this series (although I could seriously do without the love triangle).
The Explorer's Guild by Jon Baird
This book is gorgeous. Part graphic, part text, on these beautiful thin, yellowed pages. I'm pretty excited for this book.
Audio:
Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl by Carrie Brownstein
I had this book a few weeks ago, but decided to wait until the audio came in to read it. I love Carrie's voice, and always prefer to listen to memoirs.
Movies:
Paper Towns
I've tried to read this book a couple of times. I made it most of the way through the audio before I just couldn't do it anymore. I'm hoping this will be one of those rare movies where I like it more than the book.
Clouds at Sils Maria
I've heard nothing but good things about this movie, especially about Kristen Stewart's performance. I'm really excited. This will definitely happen this weekend and will write a review for next week.

Well that's it for me this week. Feel free to leave a link to whatever weekend post you do (Stacking the Shelves, In My Mailbox, etc). I love to see what books people have recently snagged and especially enjoy hearing about my fellow bloggers' weeks. I hope you are all having a fabulous weekend!

    1. I liked it! I love a good, dark book every once in awhile, and this series has quickly become my favorite for that. I've read all three books in the past few months.

  3. This is Why You are Single seems really funny....can't wait to hear your thoughts on that! I hear you about Paper Towns. It's not my favorite of Green's. I really loved Looking for Alaska. I hope you enjoy the movie!

  6. Hi. So far I write two weekend posts. On Saturday it's Stacking the Shelves, and on Sunday it's a weekly summary with both life and reading, including (sometimes) mini-reviews of the books I've completed during the week. I'm so with you when it comes to having trouble getting it all together to write and post a review. So glad to see you bringing home lots of books from the library. (Yes, I know you work there...) I've made a serious attempt for 2 years to borrow instead of buy new books.

Explorer's Guild looks awesome. Hope you enjoy it.

  7. I've been eye-ing The Explorers Guild. The presentation of it grabs me. I liked reading Paper Towns. Haven't yet seen the movie to compare. You are reminding me to get Clouds at Sils Maria. Have a good reading week ;-)

Hello, there! Thanks for taking the time to comment. I read each and every one and will do my best to respond--usually on your blog instead of on mine. I will, however, always answer direct questions. Due to serious time restraints, this blog is now an award free zone, but I appreciate the thought!
